ROCHESTER CITY BALLET ADDS SEVEN NEW DANCERS

Rochester’s professional company expands, adding new company members and apprentices to the roster

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –The Rochester City Ballet (RCB) is pleased to announce the addition of four new company members and three new apprentices to the organization. Hayley Meier, Karl Moll, Ben Rabe and Jill Schwartz join the RCB as company members. Courtney Catalana, Brenee Michael and Kelsey Schneider have been appointed as the company apprentices.

“For the second year in a row we have been able to expand our company, adding exceptionally talented dancers from across the United States,” said artistic director Jamey Leverett. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of our patrons and the Rochester arts community.”

RCB’s new company members bring with them extensive qualifications through both training and performance. Ms. Meier, a Rochester, New York native, returns to the RCB after a leave of absence to attend the University of Arizona, where she studied on a full scholarship for dance.

Originally from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Mr. Moll joins Rochester City Ballet after receiving his training at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. He has also participated in summer intensives with the San Francisco, Miami City and Boston ballets.

Mr. Rabe joins the company this year, after training with the Ballet Westmoreland Academy and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School Graduate Program, having attended the latter on full scholarship. He is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Schwartz, originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, was a trainee at the Festival Ballet Providence and an apprentice with the Orlando Ballet. She received her training from the Academy of Ballet Internationale in Indianapolis, and the Orlando Ballet School.

The three new apprentices joining RCB also bring a range of experience to the organization. Ms. Catalana, a Rochester, New York native, received her training from the Draper Center for Dance Education. In 2009, she and RCB company member Brandon Alexander, were selected as one of 24 couples worldwide to compete in the prestigious New York International Ballet Competition.

Ms. Michael, a Rochester, New York native, joins the Rochester City Ballet having received her training from the Timothy M. Draper Center for Dance Education. She was recently named the recipient of the Floyd and Halina Lutomski scholarship award for excellence in ballet from the New York International Dance Alliance.

Ms. Schneider begins her apprenticeship with the Rochester City Ballet after receiving her training from the North Carolina Dance Theatre School, the Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy on full scholarship, and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Graduate Program. She has also performed as a company member with the Houston Ballet II. Ms. Schneider is a native of Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
All of the company’s newest members will perform when RCB teams up with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for The Nutcracker November 27th-29th at the newly renovated Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theater.
