RCB News – Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ROCHESTER CITY BALLET PRESENTS DIVAS ROCHESTER, N.Y. – This spring, the Rochester City Ballet (RCB) will present Divas, a mixed bill evening of dance featuring contemporary ballet, intriguing choreography and technical excellence. Divas will be comprised of four different ballets: Push and Pull, Respect, Carmen, and the world premier of a brand new ballet, a collaboration between RCB’s artistic director Jamey Leverett and the Cello Divas. Performances will be held at the Nazareth College Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. “Divas will offer something for everyone,” said Leverett. “This performance promises classical ballet, contemporary dance, extraordinary music and exquisite performances by our Rochester City Ballet dancers. I’m especially excited for our audience to see the company dancing as the Cello Divas play live onstage.” The evening will commence with Leverett’s award-winning ballet, Push and Pull. Excerpts from the crowd-pleasing Respect, a ballet set to the music of Aretha Franklin, will follow. The audience will then be treated to Leverett’s latest choreographic work, a collaboration with Rochester’s own Cello Divas, a local four-person cello ensemble. RCB company members will dance the four-part ballet as the Cello Divas play a variety of scores from Bach to The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik’s “Blue Funk.” The performance will conclude with Edward Ellison’s Carmen, a ballet filled with power, passion and desire. Featured Rochester City Ballet principals and soloists will include Gabriel Davidsson of Brighton, Adam Kittelberger of Rochester, Tara Lally of Pittsford, Sari Ostrum of Rochester, and Brittany Shinay of Pittsford. Specifically in Carmen, Katie Lally, of Pittsford, will dance the title role of “Carmen,” Jim Nowakowski, of Webster, will dance as “The Matador,” and Octavio Martin, member of the Sarasota Ballet and former principal dancer with the National Ballet of Cuba, will perform as a guest artist and dance the role of “Don Jose.” Tickets are $38 each, $20 for college and high school students with a valid ID, and are available by calling the Nazareth College Arts Center box office at 585-389-2170. The Rochester City Ballet (RCB), founded in 1987, is a non-profit, educational corporation. The company presents a full season of quality dance to diverse audiences and helps keep the arts alive by presenting performances to educate and entertain adults and children at community events and special RCB performances. The RCB has created at least 20 new ballets including Firebird, Don Quixote, Cinderella and the annual Nutcracker. FOR MORE INFORMATION Contact: ###
