Rochester City Ballet presents a choreographer showcase featuring 4Play, a new work by artistic director Jamey Leverett, Edward Ellison's Carmen, and excerpts from Daniel Gwirtzman's Encore.

4Play
Jamey Leverett partners with her husband Tim Leverett on this newest work. She choreographed each step as he simultaneously composed the accompanying drum music. A contemporary "battle of the sexes," this work pushes the boundaries of the performers and highlights the strengths of each of the dancers. Tim Leverett will play live on stage with the dancers.

Encore
Gwirtzman's Encore is a critically-acclaimed signature work of the Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company and set to an infectious score of jazz recordings. The piece is a humorous inside look at a company in its final dress rehearsal before an upcoming performance. Described as a show-within-a-show, the choreography is joyful, fast, and rhythmic.

Carmen
Set in Seville, Spain, Carmen is a story of seduction, love, jealousy and tragedy. Edward Ellison, best known for his prolific career as a dancer, choreographer and teacher, choreographed his interpretation of this classic story ballet specifically for RCB in 2006.

Much like the ground breaking Legends of Dance in spring 2009, Dance Mix will be an eclectic mix of dance styles and cutting edge performances.

"A mixed bill performance is a wonderful opportunity for our organization to highlight the individual strengths of our dancers in a variety of genres. Because of the selection of works on the program the audience will be treated to a wide variety of dance styles, each amazing in its own right, allowing us to offer something for everyone." - Jamey Leverett

“They're all beautiful dancers. ...They're right up there, completely capable, real artists willing to take chances.”
- Patrick Corbin, choreographer/artistic director of CorbinDances
